Introducing the Next Generation of Oris Aquis Date Caliber 400

Oris has been synonymous with innovation, especially with the Oris Caliber 400.
Jul 29, 2024

Launched in 2020, the Caliber 400 movement represents a significant milestone for the brand. In 2024, the brand introduced a new series of the Oris Aquis Date Caliber 400 collection that brings the movement in a fresh and innovative design.

This movement is entirely developed in-house, showcasing Oris's dedication to advancing mechanical watchmaking. The Caliber 400 is designed to meet the demands of modern watch enthusiasts, combining robustness, precision, and longevity.

This new package of Aquis Date features updated aesthetics and enhanced functionalities, further solidifying the Caliber 400's position as a game-changer in the world of dive watches. With its sleek new look, the latest Aquis Date models offer a perfect blend of style and performance, appealing to seasoned divers and watch enthusiasts alike. In this article, we will take a closer look at this appealing new collection.

A Brief to Oris Caliber 400 Movement

The Oris Caliber 400 stands out as a groundbreaking movement in the watchmaking industry, setting new standards in reliability, performance, and customer satisfaction. Here are the key features:

Five-Day Power Reserve

One of the most notable features of the Oris Caliber 400 is its impressive power reserve. The movement can run for a full five days (120 hours) without requiring winding. This extended power reserve is achieved through the use of twin barrels, allowing the watch to maintain accurate timekeeping for longer periods.

High Accuracy

Oris has ensured that the Caliber 400 offers exceptional accuracy, with a deviation of just -3 to +5 seconds per day. This level of precision is comparable to many chronometer-certified movements, although the Caliber 400 itself is not chronometer-certified.

Enhanced Anti-Magnetism

Modern life exposes watches to numerous magnetic fields, which can adversely affect their accuracy. The Oris Caliber 400 addresses this issue with over 30 non-ferrous and anti-magnetic components. The movement can withstand magnetic fields up to 2,250 gauss, far exceeding the ISO 764 anti-magnetic standard.

10-Year Warranty and Service Intervals

Oris offers an industry-leading 10-year warranty on watches equipped with the Caliber 400, reflecting their confidence in the movement's durability. Additionally, the recommended service interval for these watches is also 10 years, significantly longer than the typical 3-5 years suggested for most mechanical watches.

Introducing the New Face of Oris Aquis Date Caliber 400

Oris has unveiled a fresh evolution of its renowned Aquis Date collection for 2024, offering watch enthusiasts a blend of innovative design and technical prowess. This new series is available in three distinct sizes: 43.5mm, 41.5mm, and 36.5mm, catering to a wide range of preferences.

While the Oris 733 automatic movement, derived from Sellita, is available across all sizes, the in-house Oris Caliber 400 is exclusive to the 43.5mm variant, providing a premium option for those seeking superior performance.

The redesigned cases across all models feature shorter, more ergonomic lug shapes, re-proportioned bezels, and enhanced crown guards, ensuring a comfortable fit and a modern look.

In addition, the bespoke dial fonts and dial-matched date wheels further elevate the aesthetic appeal, with dial color options including blue, green (for the two larger sizes), and black for the 733 models. The collection also introduces Upcycle versions, utilizing recycled plastic for unique dials, and special Mother-of-Pearl (MOP) dials for the 36.5mm models.

Oris has also overhauled the bracelet and strap options for the new Oris Aquis Date Caliber 400 series. The updated bracelet features wider brushed center links, while the Caliber 400 Aquis Date (43.5mm) and the 36.5mm 733-powered Aquis include the innovative "Quick Adjust Clasp System.”

That change allows for easy on-wrist micro-adjustments and quick-release functionality. Notably, the straps are interchangeable between the Caliber 400 and the 733-based 43.5mm models, offering versatility for customization.

The distinction between movements is significant. The Oris 733 is a reliable movement with a 4 Hz tick rate and a 38-hour power reserve. In contrast, the Caliber 400 boasts a 4 Hz tick rate, a remarkable 120-hour power reserve, and precision regulated to -3/+5 seconds per day, accompanied by an impressive 10-year warranty.

The 36.5mm Aquis Date models offer a slightly different design, with a bezel insert featuring baton markings and a distinct bracelet design. These models come with options for a black or Mother-of-Pearl dial, available on either a rubber strap or a bracelet.

In line with Oris's commitment to sustainability, the new Oris Aquis Date Caliber 400 series is packaged in eco-friendly cardboard packaging, utilizing over 50% recycled materials. This fold-flat design reduces shipping volume by 54%, underscoring the brand’s efforts to minimize its carbon footprint.

Final Thought

The 2024 Oris Aquis Date Caliber 400 series marks a significant advancement for the brand, seamlessly merging aesthetic refinement with technical excellence. With its availability in three versatile sizes, updated case designs, and others, the new Aquis Date collection caters to a diverse range of watch enthusiasts.

By introducing these enhancements, Oris reaffirms its dedication to innovation, quality, and environmental responsibility, ensuring the Aquis Date remains a standout choice in the world of dive watches.
