To honor Seiko's historic 145th anniversary, the brand has unveiled the Prospex Samurai HBB001J—a striking new limited edition featuring an iconic "Seiko Blue" accent. In the world of Seiko, "Prospex" stands for "Professional Specification," a guarantee that these timepieces are engineered to meet the rigorous demands of professional divers. This latest release delivers a modern take on the original "OG" Samurai silhouette that debuted in 2004. Because the initial generation had a short production run ending in 2008, original Samurai divers remain exceptionally rare and highly sought after. Following the massive popularity of the collection's revival in 2017, the HBB001J marks a bold new chapter for the legendary tool watch, celebrating a monumental brand milestone with a fresh, contemporary aesthetic.
With a 41.7mm diameter and a slim 12.3mm profile, the new Samurai is designed for everyday versatility. The 49.5mm lug-to-lug measurement, paired with a 20mm lug width, allows the watch to hug the wrist perfectly for a comfortable, glove-like fit. The case features the signature, blade-like architecture that defines the Samurai series, achieving a sharper, more compact form. It is a unique and aggressive design that stands out in any collection.

Notably, as of the "crown" of the Samurai, the unidirectional bezel features bold, high-contrast white markings throughout. The first 15 minutes are set against a sleek grey background with detailed minute tracks, while the remaining section showcases the iconic "Seiko Blue." Designed for serious utility, the deep, intricate knurling on the bezel's edge provides an exceptional grip, allowing it to rotate smoothly through 120 precise clicks with zero free play in a counter-clockwise direction. Sitting flush atop the case is a durable Hardlex crystal, providing reliable protection for the dial beneath.
Combining satin brushed finishing with high polish detailing, this timepiece achieves a premium look that feels as rugged as it is refined. The crown is protected by robust guards and features cross hatched knurling for a tactile grip during time adjustment. Turning the watch over reveals a brushed, screw down case back rated to 200m of water resistance and embossed with the signature Seiko tsunami emblem. Finally, the inclusion of drilled lug holes offers the convenience of effortless strap changes for any occasion.

This blend of classic aesthetics and thoughtful detailing enhances the watch's versatility, making it a perfect companion for any occasion.
Powered by Seiko's automatic caliber, 4R35, operating at 21,600 BPH (3 Hertz) with hacking and hand winding capabilities. It has 23 jewels with a power reserve of 40 hours.
