Marathon Watch, Are They Strong Enough?

Marathon Watch has changed the brand name three times. It was originally founded as Weinsturm Watch in 1904, then renamed into Wein brother. More than 30 years later, Marathon watch was officially established by Morris Wein.

He began to manufacture some military-grade watches for British soldiers' equipment in the period of World War II. Followed by other military forces such as Israel and the US, the Military watch was getting well known and often used in the war.

The brand's popularity continues till this day. They keep producing a high quality of military watch for the United States Armed Forces. Not only available for the Army, the timepiece could be bought by everyone since it carries an everyday watch design.

The Collections of Marathon Watch

No doubt that every Marathon Watch is well built both in design and technology used. The brand offers you three best collections based on features for every important milestone: Dive (SAR), Navigator (NAV), and General Purpose (GP).

1. Dive (SAR)

Dive watches are created not only for reading the time or date, but also have a function to track your elapsed time in the depth of water, mainly for professional divers. Most of these collections have a 300 meter water resistance and use a screw down crown type to prevent water from getting inside the watch.

The timepiece has complex features in a simple color. All Marathon Dive watches come in three different dimensions: jumbo - 46 mm, large - 41 mm, and medium - 36 mm.

The brand gives two alternative movements on every size, you can choose either a quartz or an automatic caliber. Marathon also provides you with a calendar display that sits between 4 and 5 o’clock

For the high visibility in the periods of darkness, they applied tritium gas tubes and maraglo, a kind of self illumination that had no need to be charged by external light.

2. Navigator (NAV)

These collections are intended for pilots and parachutists. Marathon Navigator has two varieties, with the date display or without date at all, both still maintaining high features and accuracy.

The simplicity remains on the bezel and the nylon bracelet which have the same color. While Dive collections focus on black, silver and white, Navigator comes in three shades: black, desert tan, and sage green. All colours give an impression of a military look.

What makes these collections different is, they introduce an End of Life (EOL) indicator that allows you to know when the battery must be charged. Overall, the timepiece has a clear legibility, withstand extreme temperature, and a captivating design.

3. General Purpose (GP)

Inspired by GG-W-113, one of Marathon’s historical wristwatches that was used in the 1980s, they bring out General Purpose collections to us, known as field watches. These collections are often associated with Navigator Collections because they have the same colour scheme: black, sage green, and desert tan.

There are two types of movement that GP watches use. Marathon watches General Purpose powered by High-torque Quartz ETA FØ6 movement, while ETA 2801 is used for the mechanical. If you’re the type of person who loves to wind your watch everyday, you definitely love the mechanical movement.

According to your taste and wrist size, here Marathon gives you three choices of the case dimensions: 34 mm, 39 mm, and 46 mm. All dials done in black and straps made from nylon.
