Mido Multifort TV Big Date DDLM Alebrijes Ref. M049.526.11.081.02 |
Born from a fever dream envisioned by Mexico City paper artist Pedro Linares Lopez in 1936, Alebrijes are fantastical hand crafted sculptures that combine various animal forms into surreal, colorful creatures. These imaginative figures quickly gained the admiration of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, later developing deeper roots in Oaxaca through copal wood carving and Zapotec spiritual traditions centered on protective animal spirits. Recognized worldwide as an emblem of Mexican creativity, their legacy shines during Day of the Dead celebrations along Paseo de la Reforma with giant parade sculptures. Channeling the surreal essence of Alebrijes alongside the elegance of Mexican Calavera culture into the TV shaped case of the Mido Multifort TV brings a dynamic explosion of color and cultural resonance to the collection.
Thanks to its 40mm diameter, 46.85mm lug to lug length, and 11.48mm thick stainless steel case, the Mido Multifort TV Big Date brilliantly weathers the passage of time. Its polished oblong case geometry contrasts with the fine satin finishing across the top surfaces and flanks, adding a distinct touch of architectural refinement. The refined fixed bezel features a luminous pip positioned at 12 o'clock, introducing a sporty element to the overall presentation. The shape evokes memories of vintage television style watches from the 1970s, a period that injected lifestyle flair and creative fun into traditional horology. This modern evolution scores highly by bringing that nostalgic charm into a contemporary, highly wearable sizing suited for almost any wrist.

| Big Date Aperture |
Perfect for daily life and adrenaline fuelled adventures, the Multifort displays essential information, centered around the prominent date complication at the top. A flat sapphire crystal with double sided anti reflective treatment provides an unobstructed view of the smokey patterned dial, where a rich gradient darkens toward the outer perimeter to generate captivating visual depth. Across the center, a colorful Mexican skull and traditional Alebrijes artwork dominates the display, while fine vertical texturing creates dynamic light play. Hour and minute hands pair with painted indices for crisp surface contrast, framed by an outer minute rehaut in energetic orange and yellow tones that align perfectly with the theme. Highlighting its nocturnal performance, SuperLumiNova treatment extends across the entire skull and Alebrijes motif, as well as the hands and hour plots, guaranteeing full legibility in any lighting environment.
Pack within the 100m water-resistant Multifort is the Calibre 80 of MIDO based on the ETA C07.611 with a total 80-hour power reserve. The Caliber 80 is considered in-house as MIDO is part of the Swatch group family, and the modified ETA CO7.621 features a Nivachoc balance spring with its frequency reduced to 21,600 Hz and an improved mainspring capacity. The time and date adjustment can be easily adjusted through its screw-down crown, flanked by crown protectors on each side. The calibre 80 inside the watch and the added big date complication make it so value-driven as it holds one of the highest-quality movements today at an exceptional price point.
