Yema, an unsuspecting name coined by Henry Louis Belmont during a school contest back in his teenage years, goes on to attain a massive following throughout its 72 years of watchmaking. Graduating at the top of his class in the National Watchmaking School of Besançon, Belmont lives up to his title with exquisite timepieces that are out of this world, literally, when the Yema Spationaute flew to space on astronaut Jean-Loup Chrétien's wrist.

| Yema Flygraf Pilot French Air Force |
Buckle your seatbelts as Yema introduces the newest addition to its aviator watch collection, the Yema Flygraf Pilot French Air Force. Dating all the way back to the 1970s, Yema Flygraf chronographs have been crafted in close collaboration with pilot watch enthusiasts and professional aviators to reach the greatest heights in timekeeping. Born out of a genuine partnership with the military personnel who serve in French skies, this piece is built in the true spirit of the cockpit. It is not just an aviation inspired piece, it is the real deal, standing proudly as an official watch chosen for the French Air Force.
When you first strap it on, the physical size hits an absolute sweet spot. Measuring 38.5mm across, just 8.9mm thin, and 46mm from lug to lug, the Flygraf Pilot sits remarkably low and flat on the wrist. Instead of standard brushed steel, the 316L stainless steel case gets a four tone sandblasted camouflage treatment that is surprisingly tactile. The darker sections are blasted noticeably rougher while the lighter parts feel finer, giving the surface a distinct physical texture you can actually feel under your fingers. A double ion plating process inside a vacuum chamber gives the gunmetal base real visual depth that will not rub off easily. Combined with angled lugs that curve downward naturally and a satin brushed bezel, it feels light, comfortable, and ready for daily wear.

Camouflage, forged in metal |
Looking under that domed K1 mineral crystal, you immediately get those cool cockpit instrument vibes. Yema went with a grainy grey dial that is completely matt, so glare is never an issue even in direct sunlight. The raised white hour numbers have thin black outlines and a healthy dose of BGW9 SuperLumiNova, sitting just above a darker ring for the minute track. Down at 6 o'clock, you get the official French Air Force logo in blue, white, and red. It is a neat little detail that anchors the whole design. The white hour and minute hands carry black edges to match the numbers, also gets a similar glow. Finished with that white seconds hand with its bright red tip glides around the dial nicely.
Powering the watch is the Japanese Seiko VH31 quartz calibre, a clever modern movement that beats at 4 ticks per second to drive a smooth sweeping seconds hand. It gives you the fluid motion of a mechanical watch paired with the effortless accuracy and grab and go ease of quartz. Flipping the watch over, immediately greeted by the neatly embossed insignia of the French Air Force engraved seamlessly onto the solid steel case back. For daily utility, the Flygraf Pilot comes fitted with a push-pull signed crown finished in the same matching gunmetal ion plating, securing a solid 100m water resistance rating. Whether you are facing flight or fight situations, this timepiece proves itself as a purposeful tool watch built to handle both responses with impressive quality.

Looking at how the strap pairs with the case, the choice of materials feels completely spot on. The 19mm black woven Cordura type nylon strap provides a utilitarian texture that feels durable enough for serious field use while remaining lightweight. Stitched near the lugs is a small embroidered French cocarde, adding a subtle touch of national red, white, and blue that ties in perfectly with the logo on the dial. The stainless steel pin buckle offers a surprisingly rich finish, showing off vertically brushed top surfaces with polished side bevels and a cleanly etched YEMA logo.
The Yema Flygraf Pilot French Air Force draws you in with its professional yet rugged allure, and before long, this timepiece finds a permanent place on your wrist. As an official piece crafted for the French Air Force, it carries genuine military authority backed by thoughtful design from the inside out. Whether you are an aviation enthusiast or simply someone who appreciates honest utility, this pilot watch feels ready to accompany explorers from all walks of life. It stands as a signature piece that encourages you to step out, embrace the open skies, and make time for your own daily adventures.
